Most cash drawers connect to the back of the receipt printer. POS tries to pop the drawer first before printing a receipt. If the receipt printer is not functioning, the cash drawer won't open.
- Verify the printer paper is loaded with paper, the paper feeds properly, and status light on the printer is green.
- Verify the cash drawer is closed and not locked.
- Cold start the PC with Start, Turn Off Computer, Shutdown (not Restart). Check all cables (unplug and reconnect printer and cash drawer). Power back on.
- Perform a receipt printer self-test -- power off, hold down feed button, power on, let go of feed button when test prints. If printer does not have off/on switch, open lid for off/on or check for reset/test button under the lid.
