How do I provide item data to a 3rd party inventory counting service?

The following procedure will provide item data require for a 3rd party inventory service to count your products. This data will allow their handheld devices to validate item scans and notify you when a scanned item is not found. Those items will need to be counted manually or set aside for manual adjustement later.

Item report to a flat file --

  1. Manager, Reports, Items, Quantity List, OK to run report.
  2. Drag Item Lookup Code (ILC) column to leftmost position.
  3. Select 'No grouping' under Grouping icon in chat toolbar (second icon).
  4. Right-click on report and select Show/Hide. Uncheck all entries other than ILC and Description.
  5. Select Export icon in toobar, File, Tab-delimited Text, uncheck 'Export hidden rows', and create a file (example, itemslist.txt).

Alias report to a flat file --

  1. Manager, Reports, Items, Alias List.
  2. Right-click on report and select Show/Hide. Uncheck Dept and Category.
  3. Select Export icon in toolbar, File, Tab-delimited Text, uncheck 'Export hiddent rows', and create a file (example, aliaslist.txt).

Let your 3rd party inventory service know the files are tab-delimited text. One file contains all items and descriptions and the other contains aliases for any items that have aliases.
