invalid handle error connecting to shared device or named PC after Windows 7 update

Enter the following into Run command box on host PC:

reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\system /v LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f

If IP address connects but not named pipes make sure named pipes is enabled in SQL; also see:
